Princess Désirée of Sweden, King Carl XVI Gustaf’s sister, died on Wedensday, January 21st, 2026 in her home, Koberg Castle, in Västergötland, Sweden. She was surronded by family. Désirée was 87 years old.
Princess Désirée was the daughter of Prince Gustaf Adolf and Princess Sibylla of Sweden. She was one of 5 children.

- This honor is given to all Knights of the Order of Seraphim on the day of their funeral. Riddarholm Church will be open to the public during the ringing.

- The burial will take place at a later date at her home, Koberg Castle, in Västergötland, Sweden.
- The location of her husband’s burial was never made public. But he is also likely buried at the castle, as it belonged to his family.
- “Princess Sibylla’s apartment” are a set of rooms on the 1st floor of the east wing of the Stockholm Royal Palace. Today, the rooms are used by King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia for every-day receptions. But, historically, the rooms were used as private residences. The rooms are named after one of the last resident’s Princess Sibylla, the mother King Carl Gustaf, Princess Désirée and their siblings. Princess Sibylla and her children moved in to the apartment following the death of her husband Prince Gustaf Adolf in 1947. ↩︎
