BAFTA Film Awards Ceremony

The BAFTA Film Awards are an annual awards show hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). The awards celebrates films released in the UK during the previous year. 

Most categories are open to films from any country and people of any nationality. There are a few categories that are limited to British Films/ British nationals:

  • Outstanding British Film
  • Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer
  • Best British Short Film
  • Best British Short Animation

    • Non-Royal
  • Princess Anne (1972-2002)
  • The Earl Mountbatten of Burma (1965-1972)
  • Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh (1959-1965)
    • First President

(BAFTA was previously called the Society of Film & Television Arts until 1976.)


Royals Attending

In recent years the awards have taken place in mid-February. The awards are not always attended by a British Royals. But, when one does attend, it is usually the president of BAFTA (possibly with their spouse). 

Below is a list of Royals attending the BAFTA Film Awards. (The year is when the ceremony was held, not the year of the films being honored.)
